West Oxford – a 15 minute walk west of the heart of Oxford city and a few minutes from the busy Intercity rail station – is located amongst some the loveliest green spaces and finest canal and riverside walks in Oxford.

Modern West Oxford, built on the site of Osney's ancient Abbey, now extends west across the clustered cottages of Osney Island and out along the causeway towards Seacourt and Botley. Its short attractive streets of Victorian, Edwardian and 1930’s houses rapidly give out into a waterland of meadows and interlaced willow-lined streams whose country paths and tracks wind away towards the island hamlets of Binsey, Medley or Hinksey.

This thriving community supports a surprising range of shops, pubs and local businesses. Here you can buy croissants and ciabattas, wedding cakes and carphones, grand pianos and Italian pots. You can use the services of cycle workshops, locksmiths and laundrettes. You can pick farm-cultivated fruit and vegetables, grow your own on one of the extensive allotments areas, or simply forage for raspberries, blackberries and sloes in the hedges lining the country paths.

At the heart of this modern community is the West Oxford Community Centre, a focus for many of the local activities which make West Oxford a fine place to live, work or visit. Our Community Centre, set back from the Botley Road, is open all day to everyone. It has a large hall for sports or bigger meetings, a number of smaller multifunctional rooms, and a popular community cafe with sunny patio which overlooks the sports facilities of Botley Park. The building also houses the West Oxford Health Centre.

And now we have this website too – a website which aims to bring together community information about and provided by local people, organisations and businesses.
