Quiet Routes as alternatives to Botley Road – Lamarsh Road

Cycling to Botley there is a gap at Lamarsh Road where the back route through Oatlands Park and King George’s Field doesn’t meet the cycle route along Botley Road. Pending the development of more houses, there is an unused footway on Lamarsh Road that could easily be adapted to make the link. This avoids the very narrow section of cycle route outside PC World, and one of the hazardous side road crossings. The other side road crossing (Wickes) can be avoided by using the informal route across the front of the retail sheds, but can simply (and reasonably cheaply) be improved by widening the hump, and setting the crossing back from the main road, in accordance with current guidance.

Designate Lamarsh Road pavement as shared-use for cycling, and minor improvements (dropped kerbs).
Create a ramp up from Lamarsh Rd to the informal route in front of the retail sheds
Widen the hump across the Wickes car park access, and install traffic island, with the cycle track crossing set back from the junction (in the gap between the first and second car in the queue – see photo)
